Graphic Design "Court and Union Sketchbook"

One of six different covers that portray aspects of the Ohio University and Athens communities. A junior studio art class within the School of Art at OU was asked to create a product. Led by Visiting Assistant Professor of Graphic Design Cindy Malon, the result was these sketchbooks that incorporates imagery from their beloved university.

When faced with the challenge of designing a book cover that reflects not only my view of the university, but also the students, I asked myself what plays a role in my everyday life as a student. The first thing that came to my mind was a place that I pass through on an everyday basis, as so many other students. The location that I am referring to is the intersection of Court and Union Street. I view that intersection as a uniting location of both the university and the town. When it came to representing my idea of this intersection being a hub of everyday student life I wanted to represent each side of the street equally. I created an intense perspective that would stand out on both the front and back cover. I also chose colors that would be symbolic of the constant motion of the intersection.

Proceeds from the books benefit the students' senior BFA exhibition
